Module K Intermodal Art

This module provides a comprehensive insight into the basics elements of Expressive Arts practice with the various arts. There are six areas of focus that are offered as intensive seminars.

The seminars aim for the development of both the artistic and therapeutic principles. The students are encouraged to follow their own questions and topics in the creative experiences. The experimental work is acting as a catalyst for the unfolding relationship with the arts and the understanding of the creative process. This also leads to an understanding of the applicability in the concrete practice. The theoretical blocks address core issues and core concepts of Expressive Arts. The module examination consists in the presentation of an individual artistic project and practical examples.

Module F Theoretical Foundations & Research

9 Days attendance for the content:

This module deals in intensive seminars and research colloquia on the basis of relevant theories with:

  • developmental issues in the life-span
  • the therapeutic relationship and various therapeutic approaches
  • the understanding of health and disease in Expressive Arts
  • diagnostic knowledge and understanding
  • professional ethics and professional communication
  • group process, group dynamics and interactional styles
  • Conflict Transformation and social partnership
  • introduction to scientific research, with the focus on phenomenology, arts-based research and qualitative research

The research colloquia provide an overview of the scientific requirements and assist in the preparation, planning and implementation of the thesis as well as in the development of the research question and the research design. The module concludes with an oral examination to the core issues and the philosophy of the Expressive Arts.

Module P Field work /Internship

6 Days attendance for the content:

This module deals with the application and practice of Expressive Arts in the context of a therapeutic process. This includes the internship seminar the conceptualization of the therapeutic approach, documentation and presentation. Case study, process and interventions are discussed and reflected in group supervision, individual supervision and in method-specific training in an individual setting. The module is complete when the students have reached the required number of hours in the internship.

Qualification and recognition

On the base of a successful completion students receive the Certificate / Module Transfer with the achieved credit points (CP). The Certificate serves as proof of the service rendered and is recognized by the European Graduate School and its cooperating educational institutions.
